The Governor Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to life more abundant for the people of the state through purposeful and visionary leadership.
In a statement to declare a low-key marking of the second year of the governor in office, Aregbesola said two years in the saddle, it is obvious to the entire people of the state that the landmark development initiatives of the administration have brought hopes back to a hitherto despondent citizenry.
The statement, signed by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon, listed concrete achievements in the areas of education, agriculture, roads infrastructure upgrade, urban renewal and environmental, health care delivery, restoration of peace and security of lives and properties of the people, tourism development and job creation upon which the citizenry have seen wide gap between the current administration and what the people experienced in the past.
Okanlawon said in the statement: “Our determination to change the face of education is paying off noticeably as illustrated by the emerging new infrastructure in the schools, development of new school curriculum, substantially increased funding of schools, innovative projects such tablets of knowledge, school uniforms, school feeding programmes and others.
“On agriculture, the people have come to embrace our strategic transformation towards massive food production with loans to farmers and assistance towards formation of more productive cooperative societies; introduction of scientific approach to animal and crops productions. The acquisition of lands for agricultural purposes and training of young farmers in the use of modern methods to make farming more attractive and lucrative have all shown that the current administration has changed the game towards wealth creation.”
Towards ensuring job creation and positive engagement of hitherto jobless youth, the statement added, the administration had, in the last two years, demonstrated its capacity to think out of the box in order to solve the growing national problem of unemployment in the state, adding: “The OYES scheme has not only taken thousands of our youths off the streets, it has compelled the administration to look more inwards towards ensuring that those who exiting at the end of the two years of the OYES participation do not go back home unemployed.
“Apart from those who have been absorbed into the state’s civil service, teaching, many other schemes have been established to cater for those who wish to be self-employed in fish farming, bee farming, red-brick making, animal production, vocational trainings such as the OYESTECH scheme and other new areas with promises of huge returns on investment in no distant future.”
On roads construction, the statement explained that the vision for a network of roads that will create economic prosperity is on course.
It said: “We are opening up the roads that link our state to other parts of the state with the belief that this will enhance trade and consequently economic prosperity. The ongoing projects on intra-city roads across the state are meant to make live more meaningful for our people.
“The ambitious Gbongan-Orile-Owu to Ijebu Igbo Road (in Ogun State); the Osogbo-Ikirun- towards Kwara state boundary road projects and other major roads projects are there for everybody to see with the advanced stages of works.”
Okanlawon noted that the Aregbesola administration is poised to continue its drive for massive transformations in the areas of the environment, roads, security of lives and properties.
Expressing appreciation for the love being demonstrated by the people, the statement assured the citizens and residents of the state of the readiness to pursue further, and with vigour, the programmes under the six-point action plan of the administration, adding that with these, no facet of the state’s life would be left undeveloped to the admiration of not only the people of the state but Nigerians in general.
