Two dead as youths attack Minna residents

Two persons have been confirmed dead by the Police in Niger State, with several others injured during an attack by over 70 irate armed youths who were on rampage in Minna, Chanchaga Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred midweek at Alade Street.
Some armed youths numbering about 70 launched a deadly attack on some defenceless citizens who are residents in the community.
According to reports gathered by The Eagle Online, two people were confirmed dead, while several others, including a journalist, sustained various degrees of injuries and have since been taken to the hospitals for treatment.
Injured victims included Jubrin Abubakar, Blessing Daniel, Simon Shagawa, Augustine Gabriel and Abubakar Hassan, a journalist with the state-owned newspaper, Newsline.
According to Hassan: “I just returned home from work.
“I saw these irate youth with all sorts of weapons attacking people.
“I did not know what it was.
“As I moved closer to find out, they rushed at me and used machete and dagger on me.
“The truth is that I still don’t know what it was all about.
“I don’t know any of the faces.
“They were mean.”
The state’s Police Command Public Relations Officer, Oguche Richard Adamu, confirmed the incident in a brief interview with The Eagle Online in Minna, saying that three people have been arrested.
Adamu said: “The suspects are already being investigated by the police in connection with the crime.”
Also, a visit by our reporter the to the troubled community revealed that normalcy had since returned to the community as residents in the areas have been going about their lawful duties without harassment, while the victims were yet to recover from the shock and as such, still counting their loses.
When our Correspondent met with the Village head, Mallam Ibrahim Shaba, who spoke in Hausa, he corroborated the stories of the victims, adding that the attackers did not even care whether their victims were young or old.
Meanwhile, authorities of the state Police Command have appealed to the residents to be calm and maintain peaceful coexistence, noting that some arrests had been made and investigations are still ongoing in order to ascertain the immediate or remote cause of the mayhem as well as bringing the culprits to book.
