Former member presenting Mangu South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Benshak Dalop, has commended the efforts of the Prof. Sony Tyoden-led Transition Committee in the state for giving the true picture of the state of affairs under the outgone government of Jonah Jang.
Dalop disclosed this Wednesday while reacting to the report of the committee that has indicted the past administration for financial recklessness, high handedness and lopsided award of contracts.
He said the report had vindicated the citizens’ constant cry and lamentations over the antecedents that heralded the past administration.
He berated the lawmakers who served in the state House of Assembly for not moving against the wrongdoings of the past administration.
He said: “It became very ridiculous that even when it became glaring that the government was corrupt, funds were being diverted and salaries were not being paid, Elders were made to be afraid to talk to the Governor to his face, members remained docile.”
Dalop advised the people of the state to support the state government in probing the past administration to recover the huge amount stolen.
He insisted that those indicted in the report should be invited to explain how contracts were inflated above budgetary appropriations and yet such contracts were abandoned.
He advised the state government to prioritise ongoing projects in the state by ensuring that only projects that meet the interests of the people are maintained.
He debunked the insinuation that the governing party, the All Progressives Congress, has a religious agenda.
He said the mass exodus and decamping of members of the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in most of the states of the federation is a clear indication that the APC has gained national acceptance.
