Nigerian International, Taye Taiwo, scored his first goal in the colour of the struggling English Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers, on Saturday.
After weeks on the sideline, Taiwo put up an above average display despite his side’s 1-3 defeat in the hands of Sunderland inside the Stadium of Light.
The home side was coasting to a comfortable victory before the consolatory goal by the Super Eagles defender in the last quarter of the encounter.
Taiwo reduced the deficit with a superb 79th-minute free-kick, but there was to be no repeat of his side’s last-gasp heroic feat against Liverpool midweek.
Earlier in the game, Nickolas Bendtner climbed high above Taiwo and headed firmly past keeper Paddy Kenny into the far corner.
Djibril Cisse was sent off for the second time in his brief QPR career as his side self-destructed at Sunderland, slumping to a 1-3 loss.
The visitors were trailing to Nicklas Bendtner’s 41st-minute header when the Frenchman launched himself into a two-footed tackle on Fraizer Campbell and was shown a straight red card by referee Mike Jones.
He will receive a four-match ban to add to the three he served following his dismissal against Wolves after what proved to be a costly fifth appearance for the club.
Cisse, who had a loan spell at the Stadium of Light earlier in his career, was not the only old boy to suffer on his return to Wearside with Nedum Onuoha’s error allowing James McClean to celebrate his new contract by adding a second 20 minutes from time.
