Taraba denies campaign report

The Taraba State Government has refuted media reports that the state’s Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, has set up a campaign committee ahead of the 2015 general election.
The Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Aaron Artimas, in a statement described the report as fallacious and misleading.
Artimas said it was designed to paint Umar as power hungry and not complying with the directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission on electoral campaigns.
Artimas, who denied speaking with the author of the report however warned credible news organizations in the country to avoid been used by desperate and selfish politicians from the state.
He said: “I wish to state clearly for record purpose that I did not speak with the author of the said report or any journalist that a campaign committee was set up.
“The reporter lied.”
According to Artimas , Umar has not informed anyone of his political intention for 2015 and has not set up any campaign committee in that respect.
He said: “The report is part of the ongoing campaign of calumny against the acting governor sponsored by politicians who are bent on disrupting the peace of Taraba State.
“The acting Governor has been busy developing Taraba State and reporting to his principal, Governor Danbaba Suntai, who is recovering fast from the ill fated plane crash
“With the tone of the report, it shows clearly where it’s coming from.
“We all know politicians in the state who have refused to accept to the divinely change of political leadership in the state.
“We know politicians who have sworn not to acknowledge Alhaji Garba Umar as the Acting Governor of Taraba State.
“We are only worried that some journalists are throwing away the ethics of the noble profession to join this foray.
“The report consistently refer to the acting governor as ‘Deputy Governor’.
“This shows how blindly biased some reporters are to truth and the Nigerian constitution.”
Artimas said the state government is not aware of any rally holding in any part of the state.
