The Federal Government negotiating team with the Academic Staff Union of Universities has said one of the reasons for the ongoing strike in the universities is the refusal of the lecturers to agree to being held accountable for funds released for the development of the education sector.

Babalakin said this when he spoke with newsmen on Saturday in Lagos, while also appealing to ASUU to call off its strike.
Babalakin made the disclosure at the 20th Anniversary and 2018 Annual Lecture/Exhibition Series of the School of Technology, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
Osinbajo made the call at a Public Lecture to commemorate the 68th anniversary of Sigma Club at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The position of the union was made known as a press conference at the union’s secretariat in the University of Benin over the weekend.
ASUU made the call on Friday in a communique by the Yola Zone of the union.

Babalakin, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said this in Gbongan, Osun, at the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board 2018 policy meeting.
Babalakin said the notion that Nigeria is a wealthy country is false, adding that the only solution to the country’s infrastructure deficit is for the government to create an enabling environment for private investors to provide the required infrastructure.

Babalakin said if this is done, the judiciary would be able to “guide the development of the nation in a manner consistent with the due process of law”.
