The Peoples Democratic Party has warmly welcomed the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, back to its fold and urged all its members in the All Progressives Congress to return back “home” and salvage the nation.

Ortom announced his defection on Wednesday in Makurdi during a meeting with Local Government Council Chairmen and 276 Councilors in the state.
Ortom, a member of the All Progressives Congress, said this against the backdrop of the clamour by governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party that he should not be readmitted into the party.

The Director of Publicity of APC in the state, Peterhot Apeh, made the denial in a statement on Thursday in Makurdi.
Suleiman Wambai, North-Central National Vice Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), said Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is not leaving the party.
The All Progressives Congress has described the alleged exit of the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, from the party as a rumour.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Terver Akase, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Makurdi.
Ortom said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on the sideline of the APC National Convention in Abuja on Saturday.
He said the administration procured and supplied ambulances and essential drugs to the health facilities in Agatu, Gboko, Ohimini, Oju, Tarka and Ushongo Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor, whose appearance was in obedience to a summon issued on Tuesday, told the law makers that 18 local government areas were hit by the incessant attacks that had claimed several lives and displaced “close to a million”.
Ortom stated this during his first official interaction with newsmen since he returned from his vacation from the People’s Republic of China two days ago.
He pointed out that the attacks were taking a different dimension now because security personnel too were not spared and all hands must be on deck to end the ugly situation.
The bill recorded an increment of N11.5 billion over the N178.3 billion that was presented to the Assembly by Governor Samuel Ortom in December 2017.
The former police officer, who is currently a Public Complaints Commissioner, accused Ortom of nepotism, saying that he had placed his family business – Oracle Business Ltd – above the state.
He said that the state would continue to partner with the Federal Government to ensure peaceful co-existence in the state and the country as a whole.
“The camps are terrible; the living conditions there are nauseating. Something urgent must be done to assist the Internally Displaced Persons,” Ortom said on Thursday.
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, is expected to be the Chairman of the event, where the Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory and Lawyer, Opeyemi Agbaje, is expected to discuss the challenges of leadership in Africa.
Ortom made the call on Monday in Makurdi when the Comptroller of NIS, Mohammed Hamis, led other senior staff of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the governor.
