The Supreme Court has affirmed the nomination of Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly NASS election.

This was as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC published the names of All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Aspirant, Godswill Akpabio as the party’s candidate for Akwa Ibom Northwest Senatorial District, and Ibrahim Shekarau as candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP for Kano Central Senatorial District, despite having defected from the NNPP about a month ago.
The representative of Kano Central Senatorial District said this on Thursday on “Politics Today” on Channels Television.
They have also reiterated their loyalty to the party and pledged to work toward its victory in the 2023 General Elections.
According to the highly influential and credible newspaper, Shekarau will be received back into the PDP on Sunday (today).
Shekarau, a former Kano State governor, joined the NNPP recently from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The lawmaker in a defection letter read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, informed the chamber that his decision to quit the ruling party was due to marginalization and lack of internal democracy in the Kano Chapter of the APC.
The former two-term Kano State Governor Shekarau said this at a news conference in Kano on Thursday.
Responding to the judgment Thursday after a thank you visit to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje asked the Shekarau-led faction to give peace a chance.
This was issued in a letter to Ganduje by the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni.
The committee is to be headed by Governor Abdullahii Umar Ganduje and assisted by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
There had been crisis in the Kano State chapter of the party, which had pitted Shekarau against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
He was received on arrival at the Aminu Kano International Airport by a delegation led by Senator Shekarau and the Chief of Staff to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Ali Haruna Makoda.
The Judge made the reaffirmation in a ruling on Friday that followed the rejection of the earlier judgment of the court.
Shekarau, representative of Kano Central Senatorial District, had on Sunday visited Tinubu in his Lagos residence.
The national APC leadership also said it was waiting to receive and study the recent High Court judgement recognising Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s faction in the state.
The Kano State Bureau for Land Management offered the explanation for the action in a statement it issued on Thursday.
The SAN was the lawyer of a former Governor of the State, Ibrahim Shekarau, in a suit involving the All Progressives Congress.
Shekarau, who represents Kano Central District in the Senate, stated this on Monday while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast programme.
