In a reaction to the judgment of the Court of Appeal that dismissed the cases instituted against his emergence as the governor of the state by Wada and Faleke, Bello made the plea on Thursday in Lokoja in an interview with newsmen

This was after three months industrial action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities of the institution

He said naming the university was the ultimate honour that could be done to the memory of the late colourful politician who ruled the state twice as the civilian governor from 1991 to 1993 and 1999 to 2003.

The Tribunal had earlier in the week dismissed similar petitions against Bello

This has not been helped in anyway by the fact that the unexpected development that threw up Bello as the incumbent governor also caused massive dislocation in the “settlement system” that had ensured government handouts trickle down through cronies to street urchins, and arrangement that had ensured hangers on are well fed in a state that is only now trying to have the semblance of an economy. Yahaya Bello’s emergence was hotly contested before the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal upheld his election

Faleke, the running mate of the initial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, had gone to the Tribunal seeking his declaration as the valid candidate of the party for the election and his declaration as Governor

The group said the deal was brokered by First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, using her relationship with the governor to secure victory for him

The governor said there was the need to ensure the separation of powers for the sustenance of the ”tripod of democracy”, adding that money that accrued to the arms were paid directly to them since he assumed office

The nominees are Engr. Abdulmumini Sadiq from Adavi Local Government Area; Dr. Saka Haruna, Ajaokuta; Alhaji Sanusi Haruna, Ankpa; Dr. Tim Dichie, Bassa; while Hon. Enema Paul is from Dekina

Bello, who made the accusation on Sunday in a statewide broadcast to commemorate Democracy Day, said the immediate past administration used fictitious beneficiaries to siphon the money

Alhaji Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja.

The others are Fresh Democratic party, Peoples Democratic Party, Independent Democrat, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Unity Party of Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Movement, Young Democratic Party and Peoples Party of Nigeria.
Their originating summons, signed by counsel to the political parties, Williams Aliwo, dated May 18, was made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday

Sources close to the All Progressives Congress said on Tuesday that Governor Yahaya Bello appears undecided on who to back for the ministerial slot as sources said he was torn between using the position to end the political feud in the state chapter of the party and selecting one of his own core loyalists for the job

According to him, a budget monitoring implementation committee will be set up to coordinate and monitor its full implementation.
