Usyk outpointed Anthony Joshua last month to retain his three heavyweight world titles, a result which saw fellow champion Tyson Fury come out of ‘retirement’ to begin negotiations for a super-fight. The clash is expected to take place in February after a date in December was ruled out.

Wilder’ s defeats to Fury were the only two losses in his career – with an outstanding 42-2-1 record with 41 knockouts. He took Fury all the way in his bouts, knocking him down four times and coming so close to knocking the Gypsy King out. And although he’s still at the top of his level, Wilder admitted that he had strongly been considering retirement.

Fury makes the second defence of the belt that he won from Deontay Wilder in the pair’s 2020 rematch, which followed a controversial split draw in 2018. Fury stopped Wilder in their second bout to claim the gold, before knocking out the American again last October to retain it.
