Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Monday announced the signing of 16 new players to strengthen the team for the second stanza of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League season and promoted three others from its youth team.
A statement by the Media Officer of the Club, Femi Atolagbe, confirmed the recruitment and promotion of the three players.
According to Atolagbe, the move to secure the services of quality players is aimed at achieving optimum performance and to complement the performance of the current squad.
He quoted the President of the club, Bamidele Ologunloluwa, as saying that the signings were necessary, given the team’s performance in the first phase of the league.
Ologunloluwa said: “We are delighted to welcome the new players into our fold.

“These players are household names in the game, both within and beyond the shores of Nigeria.
“We appeal for the continued support and prayers of all stakeholders to lift the team from their current position on the league table.”
Also, Atolagbe said Sunshine Stars’ Technical Adviser, Abubakar Bala, expressed confidence that the blend of new and old players would deliver the desired results.
“Our focus now is to build a team with intense competition in all departments,” Bala said.
The new signings included Waheed Adebayo from Lobi Stars, Daniel Edeh (El Gouna, Egypt), Liman Ahmadu (Lobi Stars), Alao Dabani (Lobi Stars), Okeke Vincent (Bendel Insurance), Edafe Vincent (Remo Stars), and Ebuka Anaekwe (Kwara United).
Others are; Chukwudi Esobe (Heartland FC), Sadiq AbduRazak (Niger Tornadoes), Buhari AbdulAfeez (Osun United), Amia Kenneth (Katsina United), Henry Elum (Shooting Stars), Uche Onwuasonaya (Shooting Stars), AJibola Matthew (Lobi Stars), Tosin Akinyemi (Ekimogun), and Tunde Adesua (unattached).
The three promoted youth players are Ariyo Ikulamberu, Christopher Richards, and Samuel Matthew.
