Kwara United delivered a commanding performance to beat Enyimba International FC of Aba 2-0 on Monday in Ilorin at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl of the Major-General George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports the match is an outstanding fixture of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League.

It was a matchday 16 fixture.

The hosts took control from the start, with a commanding dominance, which paid off in the fourth minute when Shola AbdulRaheem was adjudged to have been fouled in the box.

The centre referee awarded a penalty, which Wasiu Alalade calmly converted to put Kwara United ahead.

The defensive quartet of Jimoh Gbadamosi, Kabir Muhammed, Ibrahim Yahaya, and Segun Adekunle held firm, ensuring Enyimba couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Junior Aimufua extended the lead in the 37th minute with a brilliant solo effort, dribbling past two defenders before scoring a stunning goal from close range.

In the second half, Kwara United maintained their impressive display, although Enyimba’s defence thwarted attempts to increase the scoreline.

The midfield duo of Akanni Akeem and Shola AbdulRaheem controlled the game, preventing Enyimba from creating meaningful chances even when the visitors upped their game.

Coach Tunde Sanni of Kwara United in his post interview praised his team’s preparation and resilience.

“If we can beat a team that represented Nigeria in the CAF competition, it shows our strength. We are not an ordinary team,” Sanni said.

He urged fans to keep supporting the club and expressed confidence in their ability to maintain this form, particularly as they prepare for a revenge mission against Niger Tornadoes in Minna.

Coach Stanley Eguma of Enyimba attributed the loss to fatigue from CAF and outstanding league matches, which left his players unable to rest adequately.

Eguma however assured fans that his team would bounce back stronger.

NAN reports that the victory marks an impressive end to the first round for Kwara United, reinforcing their position as a formidable force in the league.

The result means Kwara United moved from the 14th position to 11th on the log.
