The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that every eligible voter in Nigeria was allowed to vote.
Abubakar made the call when the President paid homage to him in his palace in Sokoto on Monday.
According to Abubakar, there is the tendency that many Nigerians would be disenfranchised from the February 2015 election because, according to him, millions had not obtained their Permanent Voter Cards
He added that if he was unable to obtain his PVC till now, he wondered how an ordinary Nigerian could obtain theirs between now and February 14.
The Sultan said: “Millions of Nigerians are likely to be disenfranchised for not obtaining their PVCs.
“I am one of those who, up till now, has not received the PVC.”
He stressed that since Nigerians could only vote with the PVCs, it was only realistic for the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that all Nigerians obtained their cards before elections.
