The outgoing Customs Area Controller at Seme Border, Mohammed Aliyu, on Thursday said the command generated over N8.4 billion from March 2017 to August this year.
Speaking during the official handing over to his successor, Mohammed Garba, Aliyu said that the command witnessed unprecedented increase in revenue and seizures in the last 18 months.
He said: “We made 1060 seizures with Duty Paid Value of over N1bn and seized about 40,000 bags of rice which is equivalent to 66 trailer trucks.
“Over 28,000 bags of the seized rice were sent to Internally Displaced Persons in line with Federal Government policy.
“In addition, 37 exotic vehicles were also confiscated while various medications and other perishable items were duly condemned and destroyed.” Aliyu said that he took some proactive steps to give Seme border an international outlook by reclaiming the customs land that was encroached upon by unscrupulous individuals.
He thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd) for the opportunity given to him to serve and contribute his quota to the development of the nation.
In his remarks, the new customs comptroller expressed his gratitude and reminded the customs men to be disciplined in the discharge of their duties.
He said: “Teamwork, commitment and dedication to duty is essential in achieving success toward moving the command to greater heights.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the new customs comptroller in Seme was formerly in charge of Customs Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, while the outgoing comptroller will replace him in his former position.
