Politician drags Commissioner of Police to IG, NHRC, PSC over abuse of office

A politician in Nasarawa State, Hon. Omar Nurudeen, has dragged the Commissioner of Police in charge of the the state, Lawal Sheu, to National Human Rights Commission‎, the Force Headquarters and the Police Service Commission, The Eagle Online has learnt.
Nurudeen is accusing Sheu of abuse of due process.
Others listed as having also abused due process in the petition obtained on Friday by The Eagle Online are a Divisional Police Officer, Raphael Ukenezie; an Investigating Police Officer, Hassan Adamu, who is of the Nassarawa State Police Command.
The politician accused the policemen of using of the public office they occupy to harrass, assault and pose threat to his life and that of his wife, Khadijat Omoyemi Nurudeen.‎
In the petition obtained by The Eagle Online, Nurudeen explained that his house in Lafia, Nasarawa State was robbed by armed men after his family travelled to ‎Abuja on May 27, 2016.
He said when they returned, it was discovered that almost every part of the house was ransacked by hoodlums.
He said he smelt a rat following an earlier face-off with one of his neighbours, Abubakar Sani, in September 2015.
The petition added: “In September 2015, our client received a call from his security guard in his house at Lafia that his neighbour, one Abubakar Sanni, maliciously packed some garbage and debris before his compound.”
Nurudeen immediately reported the case to the Nasarawa Division of the Nigeria Police Force, but no step was taken.
Owing to this, he filed a direct Criminal Complain under Section 143(d) and (e) of the Criminal Procedure Code against Sheu, Ukenezie and Adamu for not taking any step on the complaint.
The petition, signed by his lawyer, said further: “Since the threat to our clients’ household and property by Abubakar Sanni and his cohort, and the refusal of the police to take action, our client has been staying in the Lafia property in fear, so much that they decided not to leave the property without at least a person in occupation.”
Nurudeen said when he returned to the Lafia property after the trip to Abuja to discover that it has been burgled, the matter was reported‎ to Nigeria Police “B” Division.
According to him, the scene of crime was visited, statements were taken, prime suspects were identified as Abubakar Sani and his children and pictorial evidence taken.
He, however, said after this, nothing was heard from the Police about the matter again.
Nurudeen, in the petition by solicitors, Kayode Ajulo & Co, said it was later discovered that the suspects in the burglary case and‎ accused in the Direct Criminal Complaint have been working around Lafia to influence to him from appearing as the complainant in the matter in court.
The petition added: “In preparation for the case of 30 June 2016‎ our clients arrived at Lafia around 4pm of the 29 June 2016 and within a short while members of Police Force who obviously laid ambush for them appeared and arrested them. They (Nurudeen and his wife) were both kicked, battered and taken to the Lafia Police Station.”
Following what was considered an abuse of office and inhuman treatment that infringed on his fundamental human rights, Nurudeen petitioned the NHRC, the PSC and the Force Headquarters.
