Police seeks partnership with Law School to build capacity

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has said that the Nigeria Police Force will collaborate with the Nigeria Law School in all aspects that will promote the growth and development of legal practices within the Force and in the country at large.
This was made known during a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, Dr. Tahir Mamman, by a delegation of Nigeria Police Lawyers led by the Commissioner in charge the Force Legal Section, DCP Nwodibo Ekechukwu.
Ekechukwu, while informing Mamman of the formation of the NPF Lawyers Forum on the platform of the Nigeria Bar Association, stressed the readiness of the Legal Section to partner and collaborate with all stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria.
He noted that the NPF is desirous of a strong partnership with the school to enable police lawyers benefit from the academic programmes of the institution.
He further sought the intervention of the Director-General for the participation of officers from the Police Legal Section in workshops and seminars organized by the school and to also extend such opportunities to Legal Units of the Commands and Formations of the Police sharing proximity with branches of the Law School in various parts of the country.
Mamman applauded the initiative of the visit and underscored the need for partnership between all agencies involved in criminal justice proceedings in the country.
He affirmed that the Nigeria Law School recognizes the important role of the police as the face of the law, which informed the speed with which it has commenced the processing of accreditation of the law programme as an undergraduate discipline in the new Police University.
The DG his guests of the readiness of the school to partner with the Legal Departments of the Force, especially in academic discourse requiring practical knowledge of policing and criminal litigation.
Mamman was joined at the meeting by the Secretary to the Council of Legal Education and Director of Administration of the Law School as well as the institution’s Director of Academics.
