The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday held a well attended meeting with religious, business and ethnic leaders over the Southern Kaduna crisis.
At the meeting were leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Miyetti Allah, traditional rulers and politicians.
The meeting was held at the Kaduna State Executive Council Chambers.
Among those who attended were the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai; the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Others included the Chairman of CAN in Kaduna State, Bishop George Dodo; the representative of JNI, Sanusi Maikudi, who also spoke on behalf of Southern Kaduna muslims; and the Assistant National Secretary of Miyetti Allah, Ibrahim Abdullahi.
Also in attendance was the Chief of Attakad, Tobias Wada.
Osinbajo, after listening to all the parties to the conflict that had resulted in several deaths in Southern Kaduna, sued for peace.
He asked the parties to the conflict to tell him how many more people would have to be killed before peace is restored, adding: “We owe each other peace.”
Osinbajo, who expressed condolence in person on behalf of the Buhari administration to all those who have lost lives, asked all to stop the bloodshed and let there be peace.
He added: “I will return to meet each group separately and then meet all groups together again.”
He expressed his appreciation to Governor El-Rufai, who hosted the meeting at the Government House, adding: “It’s a first in a series of meetings I intend to hold with the community.
“Today’s meeting is just the beginning.”
The meeting came after the Acting President was joined by Amaechi and Mohammed in inspecting the Kaduna International Airport.
This is coming ahead of the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Traffic is expected to be diverted to the Kaduna airport beginning from the morning of March 8.
