Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has charged contractors handling various projects in the state to adhere strictly with the approved standards.
The Governor spoke on Friday while inspecting ongoing construction work at the Oko-Ogba road and the adjoining streets in Benin City. He expressed displeasure at the narrow walkway and covered drainage at the adjoining streets of Irhirhi/Ogba road and Aimuamuosa.
“The walkway and drainage is too narrow. We have standards in the state and it has to be two meters for the walk way. The drainage is supposed to be open for easy access for desilting” the governor noted.
The governor urged the contractors to take into account the volume of flood, noting that narrow and drainage could be difficult to desilt. He therefore, directed the contractor, Setraco NigeriaLlimited to find a solution to the flood water expected to flow to the Ogba road from the adjoining streets by providing drainage on both sides of the road.
“You should consider how to deal with the flooding that will result and extend the walkway to two metres for the safety of people that will use them,” the governor noted.
Governor Oshiomole also directed the contractor handling the upper Ekenwan road contract to hasten work on the project before the rains commence fully, saying that the 1.2 kilometre road has caused a lot of distress to residents and motorists in the area. “Do what you can to make the road motorable before the rain,” he told the project Manager, Engr. Elias ElJouni.
The Governor also inspected the construction work at the Upper Lawanni drainage, the Benin city storm master plan water project along Ekenwan road and the Golf Course link road in the Government Reservation Area where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work done so far.
