Former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, has described the the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty and the Yeye Oodua of Yorubaland, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, as “the real conscience and mother of the Yoruba Nation.”
Oni, in his congratulatory message to Mama HID Awolowo on her 98th birthday, said: “ama’s untiring efforts at building and sustaining the unity of the Yoruba nation and ensuring its worthy pride of place within the context of Nigeria’s federal structure is commendable.
“We are particularly happy that inspite all challenges, Mama has remained undaunted in her commitment to the unity and wellness of the Yoruba race.
“In critical moments, Mama has never shied away from giving useful advice on the way forward for the country, not minding her age.”
Oni prayed for many more active years for Chief Awolowo while congratulating the entire Awolowo family on the occasion of her 98th birthday.
Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State and Afenifere chieftain, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has also eulogised Mama Awolowo on her 98th birthday.
Adeyeye described her as a “a worthy mother of the Yoruba race.”
Adeyeye said in his goodwill message that her husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, will be happy where he is that he left behind a worthy matriarch, who has remained “a Jewel of inestimable value to the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria in general.”
He added: “On behalf of myself, my family, the entire PDP members and supporters in Ekiti State, I wish our mother a most glorious 98th birthday anniversary.
“The attainment of this age by Mama is no doubt a confirmation of the grace the Almighty God has bestowed on her and it is my prayer that God in His infinite mercies will grant Mama many more years in good health.
“No doubt, Mama is a pride to us, the disciples of Baba Awolowo and the entire Yoruba race. I have no doubt in my mind that Mama is more than a jewel to many of us and will continue to hold her in very high esteem.”
