An Ogun State top politician and former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has appealed to the people of the State to rally round and support the re-election bid of the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in next year’s general elections.
He also threw his weight behind the endorsement of the Governor’s second term bid by the Yewa Traditional Council.
Oladele said: “In unity lies our strength,” and, therefore, enjoined all members of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State to support the actualisation of the re-election bid of Abiodun and other APC candidates into various elective offices in the state in 2022.
The Yewa Traditional Council, led by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, at the 70th birthday of a businessman, Alhaji Akeem Adigun, aka SOCOPAO, held in Lagos at the weekend endorsed the governor for his second term in office, saying: “The case is closed.
“All those who are yet to come to terms with reality will soon do so.
“At the Yewa Traditional Council, we don’t have any pending fight any longer over any governorship candidate.”
Reacting to the statement, Oladele commended the Yewa Traditional Council for their wisdom and forthrightness.
According to him: “This has added fillip to our campaign and show to all doubting Thomases that there’s no vacancy at Oke-Mosan come 2023.”
In the same vein, Oladele has commended Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who is the APC candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District for the 2023 general elections, for the provision of transformers and classroom chairs to 19 communities and several schools across the District, not forgetting the buses he also donated to market women and religious organisations last week.
He said: “Senator Adeola’s commendable social welfare and infrastructure programme, which is fast becoming a phenomenon, centres around serving a cause greater than his personal interest.
“It’s about giving back to the people, adding voice to the voiceless, development of human capital and helping communities to solve their corporate welfare and social challenges in whatever way he can.
“He will continue to embrace the people, make positive impacts and deliver results.
“The essence of party politics is the realisation of the collective wishes and aspirations of the people and their transformation into viable instruments of affirmative change for national development, without which politics will be as purposeless as it would be unnecessary.
“This is a clear indication of what to expect in the coming years and an example of an omni-connected senator who genuinely understands the yearnings and aspirations of the people in all ways you can ever imagine.
“You can’t go to the supermarket to buy a pack of experience and skills. I have no doubt that not just Ogun West Senatorial District but the entire Ogun State will benefit greatly from Aremo Yayi’s wealth of experience and skills as a senator of the Federal Republic.”
On whether there is crisis in Ogun State APC, Oladele said that there is absolutely no iota of truth in that assumption.
According to him, due to lack of institutionalisation of party system in Nigeria and poverty of clearly defined political ideologies, people often criss-cross political parties looking for best platforms to contest elections or at least a place where they believe their interest can be best served.
He said therefore if certain people or groups of people express their interest to join APC or another party for that matter, such an action should not be perceived as an indication of internal crisis, adding: “It’s just an exercise of their constitutional rights in a democratic society.”
Oladele, a legal practitioner, admonished the people against making unguarded statements capable of raising unnecessary dust, all in the name of playing politics.
He explained that even in the church or mosque, “you cannot prevent those who have reputation for conflict not to fight or mucky the water, especially when the stakes are high as it were.
“Therefore, while certain personal statements or isolated utterances might have drawn the media’s spotlight in recent time, I have no doubt that the APC in Ogun State is strong and ready to face the forthcoming general elections with unity of purpose.
“In the past, political science alone governed party politics and political behaviour, but today, political psychology, which is the study of individual motivation and practical application of Machiavellian principles of the end justifying the means, has polarised political parties in Nigeria.
“This is why party discipline has become anachronistic and relegated to the background.”
Oladele enjoined all members of APC nationwide to adopt the right attitude towards ensuring the total victory of the party in the 2023 general elections in order to ensure the greatest happiness for the greatest number of Nigerians.
