The Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Reng Ochekpe, has commissioned the telecommunications facility provided by Globacom Telecommunications Limited to enhance communication and free flow of information in the Ministry.
During the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday in the Ministry in Abuja, Ochekpe said the facility would be used as intercom in connecting all the offices in the Ministry in Abuja and also to be used in reaching out to the outside world for better service delivery.
The Minister also called for the extension of the facility to agencies and the 12 River Basin Development Authorities under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
She said: “We have 12 River Basin Development Authorities located in different parts of the country with a large catchment area and as our work has direct bearing to rural community, I will formally request that you extend the services to them as this will also improve on their job.”
While hoping to work better in the future with Glo due to its broad based facility, Ochekpe thanked the company for the gesture and promised to make best use of the facility and maintain it.
In his remarks, the representative of Globacom and Head Broad Access, Manish Kochhas, thanked the officials of the Ministry for making the installation of the facility possible.
Kochhas said: “This connectivity being commissioned today will facilitate good communication in the Ministry.”
He also said that the facility would afford opportunity to the common man to have access to the Ministry and its officials.
He said: “With the commissioning of this voice connectivity today, Globacom would be willing to provide data connectivity service plan for the Ministry that would take the Ministry to the next level in digital communication.”
