NSCDC Ondo command impounded 33 tankers in 2013

No fewer than 33 tankers full of Premium Motor Spirit and adulterated fuel were impounded by operatives of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps in Ondo State in 2013.
The command said it also arrested about 45 oil thieves within the same period.
Some of those arrested were handed over to the NSCDC by men of Nigeria Army and the Nigeria Navy.
According to the Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Alhaji Waheed Bamidele Popoola, who explained this during the agency’s end of the year party, six rapists, fraudsters and kidnappers were also apprehended.
Popoola noted: “We were able to detect some illegal oil refinery at Ondo and Iju Osun River Basin, which we destroyed.”
Popoola said that the relationship between the agency and other sister security agencies have been cordial because they carry out the same core mandate.
He said all the suspects have been charged to court while most of them have been remanded in prison custody.
In the same vein, Popoola has assured the people of the state that the command will do more in 2014.
He urged the NSCDC operatives in the state urged the security personnel to be more punctual, disciplined, dedicated to work and shun truancy and carefree attitude.
He said the Corps has been able to acquire a land from the state government for the command’s permanent site, to be located along Oda Road.
He said: “We have renovated the headquarters and erected five new offices.”
He advised the people of the state to cooperate with the agency to enable it to deliver promptly in 2014.
Popoola urged the people of the state to extend a hand of fellowship to the agency as the job is not solely for the security agents.
He said: “The people should work hand in hand with the security agencies, especially those living in the villages.
“Whenever the notice any stranger in their land trying to vandalise pipelines, they should call us.
“When we work together, we will be able to nab the hoodlums.”
Appreciating God that the agency did not lose any of its personnel in the line of duty throughout last year, Popoola said his officers and men are now at Omotosho Phase One and also provide security for some electricity installations.
He appreciated the state government for providing the Command with solar powered borehole in the office premises.
