Months after the commencement of the 2011/12 Nigeria Premier League season, players and coaches of Ocean Boys are yet to discuss and sign contract terms with the management of the club.
Apparently angered by this development, players of the Brass-based side staged a peaceful protest prior to last weekend’s game, according to one of the club’s official who sought for anonymity.
“Since the commencement of the season, the management has yet to negotiate contract with players and coaches. No salary. We have only been paid one match bonus. The situation here is pathetic. We are suffering in the midst of plenty,” said our source.
Speaking further, our source said that it took lots of persuasions before some of the players agreed to train and play matches now.
Efforts to get reaction of the club’s General Manager, Tony Ogola, were futile.
The Brass Local Government-owned side has slumped on the log after eight weeks with only a victory and four draws.
This is a gross contravention of the rules and regulation of the Nigeria Premier League, which stipulates that clubs must enter into a written agreement/contract with every player before the commencement of the season.
