Hosts Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Saturday completed a season’s double over visiting Supreme Court FC, winning 3-0 in their 2015/2016 Nigeria National League fixture.
Kwara United had defeated Supreme Court FC 1-0 in the first round in Abuja earlier in the season.
In the Week 10 fixture played at the State Stadium Complex in Ilorin, the visitors were the first to have a close goal scoring chance.
This was when Rugasa Caleb received a pass in the 5th minute to fire wide a shot at goal even without the goal keeper in his way.
Three minutes later, Kwara United took control of the game when Michael Ohanu nodded home an Abubakar Yusuf cross from the right flank to score his first goal.
From there, Kwara United started dominating the game’s proceedings, with Segun Alebiosu being denied by the woodwork in the 21st minute after he had dribbled through the opposing defence line.
The home side’s dominance was translated into another goal through a penalty kick in the 27th minute, after Ahmed Jimoh was brought down in the penalty area.
Alebiosu then sent goalkeeper Iloh Uche the wrong way with a nicely-taken penalty kick.
The visitors struggled through the reminder of the first stanza, till it ended 2-0 to the hosts.
Kwara United players responded better to half-time team talk than their visitors as they added to the goals tally just 11 minutes into the second half.
Ohanu again jumped highest to beat the Supreme Court FC defenders to nod home his second goal of the game and put the match beyond the visitors.
Kwara United seemed to remove their foot from the throttle thereafter.
But all efforts by Supreme Court FC to reduce the tally met a brick wall as Kwara United defenders stood firm to ensure they kept a clean sheet in the game.
