The University of Port Harcourt has promoted 46 senior academics to the rank of professor, 30, and 16 others to associate professor.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Owunari Georgewill, announced this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Georgewill said that the newly promoted professors had undergone a rigorous assessment process set up by the university.

He said: “The promotions were approved during the 187th meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
“A total of 30 staff members were elevated to the rank of professor, while 16 others were promoted to associate professor.”
A breakdown of the promotions showed that the Faculty of Science has seven new professors, Faculty of Social Sciences, five, and Faculty of Management Sciences, five.
Others are Faculty of College of Health Sciences, five; Faculty of Humanities, four; Faculty of Engineering, three; and Faculty of Pharmaceutical one.
In the Associate Professor (Readers’) category, Faculty of Engineering produced four new readers; Faculty of Science, three; Faculty of Education, two; Faculty of Humanities, two; and Faculty of Agriculture, one.
Others are Faculty of Social Sciences, one; Faculty of Management Sciences, one; Faculty of College of Health Sciences, one; and Faculty of School of Science Laboratory Technology, one.
