Niger State government has called on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to increase its power supply to the State capital, Minna and its environs, adding that it will not fold its arms and allow the AEDC make Nigerlites go through undue hardship.
Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa on Sunday in a chat made the call after series of complaints were lodged to different organs of government by the residents of Minna on the irregular power supply by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
He observed that insufficient power supply by AEDC has always inflicted cyclical and multiplier effects on all aspects of human endeavours, giving instances of the Niger State Water Board which cannot pump water to Minna metropolis because of non-supply of power to the pumping station at Chanchaga Water Works.
The Commissioner stated that he saw no reason why Niger State which is housing the nation’s three giant hydro-power dams from should suffer undue epileptic and erratic power supply.
Vatsa however, advised the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to, as matter of deliberate policy in its daily distribution plans, dedicate certain percentage of the power allocated to the State.
He said the Government of Niger State will not fold its arm and watch innocent citizens of the State suffering undue hardship in the hands of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company for no just cause and no fault of theirs.
