The leadership of the Otuocha Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Anambra State has commiserated with the family of their colleague, Ifeanyi-Rolex Iloakasia, who was murdered by yet to be identified assailants on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he was killed alongside his client in Nanka Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.

They were on their way home from a court sitting at Ekwulobia High Court.

Oluchukwu Udemezue, the branch chairman, told newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Saturday that the loss was a big one to the branch and the family in particular.

Udemezue said the visit was to convey the condolences of the branch to his immediate family, while adding their voices to the call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing.

He said: “This loss is not just his family’s grief, it is our collective sorrow, and we must stand united in demanding justice.

“We have visited the family of Iloakasia to offer condolences and I must say that their pain is immeasurable.

“It is our duty to stand by them in this difficult time.

“We assured them that we, the NBA, will not rest until justice is served.

“The Otuocha Bar has formally notified the President of NBA about this horrific incident, detailing the actions taken by NBA Anambra.

“We have called on the NBA National Executive Council to actively support efforts to unravel those behind this heinous crime, we need their support at this time.”

Udemezue said the branch, in collaboration with the Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries of NBA, Anambra State, had resolved to take immediate action.

He called on members of the branch to fully comply with the directive to boycott court sittings on May 20 and May 21 to send a clear message that the crime would not be ignored or go unpunished.

The branch chairman declared that members would not allow such an act of violence against their colleague to go unchecked.

He said: “We await further directives from the NBA leadership and we urge members to remain vigilant, united, and unwavering in our pursuit of justice for our fallen colleague.

“We will not be silent.

“We will not relent.

“And we will not stop until those responsible for this atrocity are held accountable.”
