Nationwide League One side, Akure City Football Club, on Monday resumed training as part of preparations ahead of the upcoming 2017/2018 season, Kingsley Ossai, the club’s proprietor, has said.
Ossai said in Akure while addressing newsmen during their first training session at the Ondo State Sports Complex that this was necessary now in view of their target.
He said the main goal of the club for the coming season was to qualify for the Nigeria National League.
The club proprietor said he had in preparation for this equipped the club’s technical crew and all the players with all they needed to achieve the feat.
He said: “We are ready, because our major plan this season is to qualify for the NNL.
“We have also signed a FIFA-licensed agent to be in charge of our transfers in and outside Nigeria. We want to do everything in a standard and normal way.”
Ossai disclosed he had signed on Olamide Oluwasanjo on a two -year contract to oversee the transfer of players in and out of the club.
Earlier, the club’s Head Coach, Banjo Adepoju, had also announced that apart from the regular players, those in the club’s under-13, under-15 and under-17 teams would also return to duties.
Adepoju said: “They are expected before the weekend, because their teams have work to do ahead of the new season.
“They are to be in shape and be ready for action, as part of the laid-down rules of the NLO.’’
Adepoju, however, pointed out that the club performed brilliantly in the Group B2 of the NLO by finishing second.
He said: “This is a pointer to the fact that we need to prepare well and ahead, because we saw the need for it from the result we achieved.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that registration for the new NLO season has already begun.
Competition will begin in the league for clubs in its division one and division two on March 29.
