The management of the News Agency of Nigeria has approved the appointment of Lawal Ado as the substantive Editor-in-Chief, a statement said.
The statement, signed by Mohammed Momoh, the Deputy Director of Administration and Human Resources, on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the appointment took effect immediately.
Until his appointment, Ado was the Director in charge of the Foreign Directorate of the agency.
Ado holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in News Agency Journalism from the Indian Institute of Journalism, New Delhi.
Before joining the services of NAN in 1988, Ado had served as a teacher with the Katsina State Government.
On joining NAN, he worked in the Kaduna and Jos offices of NAN as the State Correspondent and later became the Zonal Manager of the North Central Zone, covering Plateau, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Kwara States.
Ado was later transferred to the headquarters to head the Research and Documentation Unit in 2010.
Before his appointment to head the Foreign Directorate in 2014, Ado had served as the Managing Editor in charge of the Newsroom.
He replaces Isaac Ighure, the former Executive Director in charge Editorial Operations, who was re-assigned to head the Department of Marketing.
While reacting to the appointment, Ado said it was a normal call to service, which he was ready to render with utmost commitment.
He said the appointment was not just for him but for the entire Editorial Department of NAN.
Ado, therefore, urged members of staff of the department to give him maximum cooperation, to enable the agency to achieve its goals.
He said: “It is a normal call to duty and the appointment is not just for me but the entire Editorial Department since I cannot achieve anything without the cooperation of the staff.
“I urge the staff to be more committed to duty so that we can have a harmonious working relationship.”
