The Christian Association of Nigeria has declared its support for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over the N90 billion campaign fund allegation levelled against him by a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Timi Frank.
The National President of CAN, Rev. Samson Supo Ayokunle, stated this on Friday in Abuja in an interview with newsmen.
Ayokunle spoke after the leadership of CAN visited Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking with newsmen at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, where he held a meeting with top members of CAN, Ayokunle said Osinbajo is innocent of the allegation.
He described it as baseless.
He said the church and all Nigerians were proud of Osinbajo and would continue to pray for him.
He said: “He has cleared the air that the allegation is baseless and there is no truth in it, and that some people are plotting against him and he was ready to provide himself to be cleared.
“If there is an allegation, there must be evidence, and that can never happen and will never happen.
“The church and the entire country will fight for him.”
Frank had accused Osinbajo of receiving N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the 2019 polls.
Both Osinbajo and FIRS have denied the allegation.
On the security situation in the country, Ayokunle said: “We must stay together to fight the challenges and we must overcome.”
