The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria has commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State over the death of over 35 children during a recent stampede in Ibadan, the state capital, and hailed Lucky Aiyedatiwas over his election as the governor of Ondo State.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, Professor Muslih ‘Tayo Yahya, on Friday.
MUSWEN lamented that it was very disheartening that an event which was organised with a good intention of helping less-privileged children eventually ended on a sour note.
It prayed to God Almighty to console those who lost their loved ones and the government of Oyo State over the loss of lives of the innocent children.
The organisation implored those who may be planning events of large magnitude to always take all precautionary measures by providing for medical emergencies, adequate security and proper planning for crowd control.
The statement reads in part: “We also send our condolences to the government and the good people of Anambra State; Minister and the good people of FCT over the similar losses they suffered arising from stampede, may God Almighty console them.
“We beseech Allah (SWT) to help avert situations that bring grief to our land and save us from all calamity, Aamin.”
Recall that the event occurred on December 18, 2024 at a funfair organised for children, which was held at the Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.
Meanwhile, the group has congratulated Aiyedatiwa on his victory at the recent Ondo State gubernatorial election.
Yahya stated that the umbrella Muslim organisation was aware of the total support rendered to Aiyedatiwa’s aspiration “by our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in Ondo State during the electioneering campaign.
