Yusuf Abdulbasit, the Most Valuable Player of the Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship, Akure zonal qualifier, says his team will not rest in its oars until it wins the National Championship billed for July 1 to 6, 2013 in Lagos.
An elated Yusuf on Tuesday led his team, Government Secondary School, Minna, Niger State, to win the Central Conference after defeating hard-fighting students of Joseph Secondary, School, Myiman, Benue State by 26 to 24 points at the Akure Township Stadium, Ondo State.
Speaking after the encounter, Abdulbasit, while commending their Benue State counterpart, maintained that winning the Akure zone is just a stepping stone to what they want to achieve in Lagos.
He said: “We all know that winning in Lagos is the ultimate and that is why we will going back to work once we get back to Minna because Lagos will host the best teams from the various zones of the country.
“I knew we will emerge champions despite losing the first set to the Benue boys but I drew inspiration from the first game which we lost and incidentally, it was our first match at the Akure zonal qualifier.
“That gave us more determination because our coach kept reminding during the game that they must not defeat us again and that helped us.”
It would be recalled that both teams had earlier met during the group stage with Benue State managing a 22-20 narrow win in their first match of the competition.
