Lionel Messi is said to have put his luxury Miami penthouse up for sale just seven months after buying it – despite rumours linking him with a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winning forward signed a two-year deal with PSG following his emotionally charged Barcelona departure in the summer, which will take him up to his 36th birthday.
Although Messi has been open about his desire to return to Catalonia with his family in the future, he has also spoken about his dreams of playing in the United States.
While the attempted sale of his Miami penthouse could lead to some doubt over that plan, the Argentina icon still has the keys to his property in the Porsche Design Tower downtown.
Four bedrooms and the same amount of bathrooms are spread out across 2,100 square feet of terrace space and even a wine cooler than can store 1000 bottles.
An outdoor swimming pool is included, as are views of the Atlantic Ocean, with the initial purchase reigniting rumours of a future MLS spell.
He said: “I’m going to wait until the season ends. I would like to play in the United States and experience life and the league there, but ultimately come back to Barcelona in some capacity.
“Right now the most important thing is to focus on the team and finish the season well, to focus on trying to win trophies and not get distracted by other things.”
With his former Argentina teammate and current Inter Miami forward Gonzalo Higuain telling ESPN in September: “I don’t want to get in trouble, I don’t know about Leo in Miami.
“He signed for two years with PSG… The club wants it, we’ll see.”
Additionally, co-owner Jorge Mas has said that he is “optimistic” that “arguably the best player of all-time” will join their team before he retires.
