Marketers commence loading of petrol at Mosinmi, Ejigbo depots

Some major oil marketers have commenced loading petrol at Mosinmi and Ejigbo depots, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Mosinmi is in Ogun State, while Ejigbo is in Lagos State.
A NAN correspondent, who monitored the situation at Ejigbo and Mosinmi depots, reports that long queues of trucks were awaiting their turns at the depots.
Some of the marketers, who spoke with NAN correspondent on condition of anonymity, claimed that only major marketers were given consideration to load products.
They expressed concern over the slow pace of loading at the depots and appealed to the management of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company to ensure even distribution of products amongst marketers.
An independent oil marketer said the loading of petrol at Mosinmi depot was being done on the basis of 70 per cent to major marketers and 30 per cent to independent marketers.
Some major marketers, however, promised that normalcy would return soon to filling stations when all marketers would have taken their turns to load.
“The worsening scarcity of petrol is a result of the initial delay in the release of fuel import allocations,” the marketer said.
Some independent marketers at Ejigbo depot, however, complained of not loading since Monday.
They said that loading was skeletal due to non-availability of petrol, adding that only eight trucks were loaded on Wednesday to few major marketers.
The independent marketers said that loading had also commenced at NIPCO, Capital oil and other private depots in Apapa, Lagos State, adding that only major marketers were given priority to load first.
Some of the truck drivers told NAN that they came from the Northern part of the country and had been on the queue to take their turn.
NAN reports that some officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the PPMC and the Department of Petroleum Resources had commenced monitoring of filling stations to avoid hoarding of petrol by marketers.
Hawking of petrol in jerry cans has been rampant along the highways in Lagos, while some stations are still selling petrol at N120 per litre.
