Mark meets with New PDP, promises justice, equity

The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Tuesday promised to be fair and ensure justice is done in the ongoing crisis that has split the Peoples Democratic Party.
Mark said this when the leadership of the New PDP, led by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, paid him a visit in the National Assembly.
As exclusively reported by The Eagle Online, the leadership of the nPDP had on Monday night planned to visit the National Assembly as it resumed on Tuesday.
Mark told the Baraje-led team: “Even if you have a knife in my head, I will stand for justice, fairness and equity.”
Mark urged the warring groups to come together and uphold a strong and united party.
He said he would remain in the PDP and not live to see the party fall apart.
He also pleaded with party faithful that no matter what happens, they must not abandon the ship.
He said: “We are stronger and better as one big, strong and united party.
“We need to work together and make our democracy sustainable.”
In finding solution to the crisis rocking the party, Mark counseled the opposing groups to lay the cards on the table honestly and objectively.
In the National Assembly , Senator Mark stated that the lawmakers elected on the platform of the party will remain united and cohesive, adding that what makes for the good of the nation and her citizens would be their watchword.
To this end, he maintained that the leadership of the National Assembly has no intention to declare the seat of any senator or House of Representatives member vacant on account of the crisis, hoping that the issues would be resolved amicably soon.
Earlier Baraje demanded among other things the recall of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State from suspension as well as his recognition as the elected chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
The group also demanded the reversal of the dissolution of the party executives in Rivers and Adamawa States, the removal of Alhaji Bamaga Tukur as the National Chairman of the party, strict adherence to the party’s constitution and total objection to third term from the back door.
The Baraje group also has among its members seven governors elected on the platform of the party.
The G-7 governors are Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso of Kano State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.
