In its quest for value enhancement, the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has been enlisted into the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board syllabus, paving the way for prospective candidates across the Federation to seek admission into it, for diploma-awarding programmes.
The College’s Provost, Akorede Ojomu announced this Tuesday at the Oko Oba complex of the institution, while addressing participants at the formal opening of a four-day training for cooperators.
Ojomu while speaking in an interview with journalists at the training themed: “Business Intelligence for Cooperators and Business Owners” confirmed that the first registration is on with the ongoing 2022 JAMB’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while the second set – academic calendar will commence right after being offered admission by the JAMB, to study its flagship courses, including: National Diploma (ND) in Cooperative Economics and Management and Micro Finance and Enterprise.
LASCOCO boss who stressed that the management is poised to run a globally-standard and technology-driven institution disclosed that the College had among others, since its inauguration in 2020 struck a successful collaboration with the United Kingdom Cooperative College, Manchester to package exchange programmes for its stakeholders with the formost international Cooperative body.
When asked about the mode of the exchange, Ojomu explained that the first mode was for the LASCOCO resource persons/facilitators and the second category he stated are the College’s staff, while the third are the Cooperators.
While the standard to be deployed in choosing the College’s beneficiaries would be exclusively discretional to the management, the prospective Cooperators’ mode, Ojomu stated would be on self-subscription.
Addressing the participants at the formal opening, the Provost said the ongoing exercise is one of the College’s capacity building programmes to strengthen cooperative enterprise growth and development, stressing that the session is deployed to explore trending and evolving technologies in “improving business productivity and its application to cooperative businesses”.
Ojomu restated: “This training will equip cooperators and business owners with the right tools to increase profit margins and initiate new stream of incomes effectively. For a business to achieve its main objective effectively in record time, information technology would have to be effectively and efficiently deployed”.
He promised the Cooperators that the College would begin to expose the new ways of increasing productivity in business by leveraging on untapped data.
He specified on the modules of the training, revealing that on the first day, participants would x-ray the tools, strategies and techniques in business intelligence and how data can be used to make the right business decisions using google forms.
On day two, the cooperators, Ojomu disclosed, will take a deep dive into business opportunities in the Agro business value chain, how to influence potential clients and customers using emotional intelligence and a guide to financial technologies (FINTECH), while on third day, we will be trained on fraud detection and its prevention.
The last day, LASCOCO boss stated is to avert conflicts in the business environment, hence, the College intends to expose participants to conflict management and resolution in cooperatives.
Among the plus recorded by the College, the Provost highlighted included: acquisition of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE; accreditation and approval for the commencement of ND Programmes, successful collaboration with the United Kingdom Cooperative College, Manchester, successful completion of the year 2020/2021 academic calender and the commencement of the 2021/2022 academic session.
Ojomu who stated one of the objectives of the College was to provide high level manpower with the capacity of self-employment and job creation, implored participants to take maximum advantage of the exercise so as to ensure that they acquire the intelligence required for growth and expansion, when return to their businesses.
No fewer than 100 Cooperators are expected to participate in the training.
