Lagos arrests firm MD for breaking seal

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arrested the managing director of an aviation servicing firm in Ikeja, for allegedly breaking a government seal on his firm.
The managing director was also alleged to have manhandled officials of the Distrain Unit of Lagos Internal Revenue Service, who sealed the firm.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the firm allegedly owed the state government N889,586 in unremitted personal income tax in 2009.
NAN was told that the managing director allegedly prevented the government officials from sealing his firm after the notice was served on him.
In the melee that ensued, officials of the unit were said to have been manhandled.
It took several hours before the security operatives accompanying the government officials could seal the firm.
It was learnt that the government officials, who returned to the firm to ascertain the state of the seal, met it broken and promptly called in the police.
The managing director and two staff of the company are now being detained for questioning by the police in Ikeja.
Efforts to speak with one of the officials of the firm failed as the official said he could not comment on the issue.
Folashade Afolayan, Head of the Distrain Unit of LIRS, told NAN that it was an offence to break government seal.
Afolayan said: “By breaking the seal, the director has disregarded the law of the state government.”
