Kwara completes 17 road projects under IF-K in 2017 – Gov. Ahmed

Despite being faced with paucity of fund, the Kwara State Government has so far completed a total of 17 road projects under the State Infrastructure Development Fund in the outgoing year.
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, made this disclosure on Thursday while presenting the State’s 2018 Appropriation Bill before the State House of Assembly.
Ahmed noted that road infrastructure development has been a major focus of his administration’s economic development effort for the State.
The governor listed the completed road projects to include Aduralere-Isale Koko-Sanu Sheu Road in Ilorin East; Gerewu Phase I in Ilorin West; Oloro Palace Way in Irepodun; Mission Road, Lafiagi in Edu; Oko Bridge, Oro Ago in Ifelodun; Henry George – Mini Campus – Queen School, Ilorin West LGA; Agbo Oba road network in Ilorin West; and Erin-Ile–Ilemona Road in Oyun.
Others are Offa-Irra Road in Oyun; Aran-Orin Township road in Irepodun; Abayawo – Guniyan in Ilorin West; Sango – Oke -Andi – Taoheed road in Ilorin South; Water Front – Pipe- Line Junction in Ilorin South LGA; Oke – Odo – Baba Bubu- Awolowo road in Ilorin South; Idofin Odo -Ashe – Idofin-Igbana road in Oke-Ero; Babanloma Township road in Ifelodun, and Ogbondoroko Township Road in Asa.
Governor Ahmed explained that the completion of these roads has increased road network in the State and has equally improved transportation of people and goods across the State.
He added that two new road projects, Geri-Alimi Diamond Interchange/Dualisation to General Hospital, Ilorin and Kulende-Sango-UITH-Oke Ose, which commenced this year are currently ongoing.
According to the governor, the State government has expended N2,980,978,202.60 to commence, improve or complete road projects across the State.
Speaking further, Governor Ahmed said in 2018, the State government will place emphasis on completion of ongoing road projects and that new ones that have been approved for construction will commence.
The governor said different road projects that cut across the three senatorial districts of the State have been proposed for construction in 2018.
According to him, the roads include Oke-Onigbin-Isanlu-Isin road, Osi-Obbo Ayegunle road, Overcomer Estate Reservoir–Tanke Pipeline Road, Ilorin, Omu-Aran Township Road, Kuchika Water Works Road, Lafiagi, Tipper Garage-Amuyo Road, Offa, Muu- Isale Ago Road, Offa, Station Road, Erin-Ile and Abayan-Patako-Ita Olowo-Ora Road.
Others are Alapa-Arobadi road in Asa, Tsaragi-Shonga road, Sanu Sheu- Akerebiata road including Double Span Bridge),Water Corporation Quarters Network road, Gerewu Phase II road, Oro-Esie-Ijan-Arandun road, Kaiama Roundabout-Vet Building road, Catholic Church-Kanji Road-Emir Place road and Oke-Oyi-Lanwa Road, among other roads to be constructed next year.
Additionally, Governor Ahmed said attention will also be paid to rural roads construction in the coming year, saying that the state government intends to key into the Federal Government’s intervention initiative of opening up rural roads through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.
He said: “To this end, the State Government has provided N200 million in the 2018 budget to access N1.83 billion from the World Bank.
“Through this effort, 381.7 km rural roads across the State will be constructed.”
