The Katsina State Government said on Monday that only 24 per cent of its students who sat for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination scored five credits and above this year.
The State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Aminu Kado, who revealed this to newsmen in Katsina, said this was in spite of the state government’s huge investment in education.
Kado decried the students’ performance in WAEC and NECO.
He said the State Government would re-introduce Teacher Training Colleges, adding that arrangements with relevant institutions had been completed to that effect.
He said the colleges were expected to commence operation in 2014 and government had concluded plans to recruit 1,000 additional teachers for its secondary schools.
The commissioner said teachers on its pay roll would also enjoy the new Teachers Salary Structure in 2014 because it had been captured in the budget.
“The governor has obliged to request for full implementation of the structure by the Ministry of Education,” he said.
He said the measures would assist in providing qualified teachers for the schools and boost their morale for effective service delivery.
