Emmanuel Adamu, the Chairman of Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Thursday lamented over the high number of casualties recorded since Monday’s attack on two villages of the area.
The chairman, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kafanchan, expressed concern on the number of death recorded so far, as the killings by unknown gunmen continue.
Adamu said: “We have so far recorded a death toll of 110 persons with scores sustaining various degrees of injuries.
“There were also residential houses that were burnt last night at Ankpon village.”
Adamu said over 3,000 persons have been displaced, with some of them taking refuge at the police outpost in Gwantu.
He said that arrangements had been made by the council to accommodate others in some primary schools in the area.
“Our people are in a state of confusion and fear as they have never witnessed such a horrific incidence,” Adamu said.
The chairman urged the people to remain calm and pleaded with youths not to take laws into their hands, assuring them that security operatives were on top of the situation.
The News agency of Nigeria reports that a 24-hour curfew was imposed in the area on Wednesday to contain the situation.
