Deontay Wilder does not believe Anthony Joshua truly wants to meet him in a heavyweight unification blockbuster, claiming Britain’s IBF and WBA champion “talks the talk, but doesn’t wanna walk it”.
Following his stoppage victory over Carlos Takam in Cardiff on Saturday, Joshua reiterated his desire to fight the Bronze Bomber, stating: “Boxing needs it and so do I, 100 per cent. It has to happen.”
Wilder, a big-punching Alabama native who holds the WBC strap, has won all 38 of his professional fights, with 37 coming by knockout.
And ahead of his own title defence against Bermane Stiverne in New York this Saturday night, the 32-year-old underlined his belief that both Joshua and WBO king Joseph Parker will duck him.
“There’s two men that I want so bad, and it’s Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker,” Wilder told Boxing Scene.
“I want to unify the division so bad. That’s my ultimate goal. I don’t care about how much money it is, the build-up, this and that – that all plays a part in it.
“But my sole feeling is I want those belts. I wanna unify, but I don’t think these guys wanna do the same thing. They talk the talk, but they don’t wanna walk it.”
