The Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, on Sunday said the peace meeting between the Presidency and the G7 Governors, who are members of the New Peoples Democratic Party will resume on Monday.
When reminded that the leadership of the new PDP had requested that President Goodluck Jonathan postpones the meeting because most of the governors will be in Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj, Gulak said he was not aware of such request.
He also insisted that there has not been any formal request to President Jonathan to shift the meeting, saying his office does not work on speculations.
He, however, admitted also reading the story in the newspapers, but added that the President would be waiting to receive them anytime they come around.
Gulak said: “That’s the report we are reading in the newspapers but the best thing is to wait for tomorrow (Monday) whether the meeting will hold or not so that if the meeting doesn’t hold, you can call me (to find out) why hasn’t it held and if we have any reason to give, we can then give you.
“But as of today, I don’t work on speculations on the papers.
“I have not seen their formal letter of request to postpone the meeting.
“I just read it on the pages of newspapers.
“So, maybe by tomorrow, we will know the correct position.
“Well, as far as we are concerned, the President is waiting.
“Any time any day.”
President Goodluck Jonathan in company with the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; and governors elected on the platform of the party loyal to the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led faction – Godswil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Liyel imoke of Cross River State and Ibrahim Dakwambo, had met with the aggrieved governors led by Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State on September 15 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
However, the meeting was inconclusive, with both parties resolving to avoid making inflammatory statements capable of further heating up the polity and fixed October 7 for resumption of the peace talks.
