He may be struggling with his fitness after he copped an injury during the match against Sweden but Golden Eaglets’ Vice-Captain, Success Isaac, is confident that his teammates would get the job done.
There have been pockets of doubts about the goal scoring ability of the Golden Eaglets since Success’ unceremonious exit but speaking for the first time, the lanky striker said the team remains focused.
“I feel bored and sad that I got injured but I believe that we have so much quality in this team and I have no doubt that we can win this trophy,” he said after the team’s arrival in Al Ain. “I feel pained that I couldn’t play the last match against Iraq but I’m so happy we won the match.”
He reinforced his stand during Friday’s parley with the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, that the Golden Eaglets have all it takes to make it a fourth title for Nigeria.
Success said: “We have enjoyed so much support from the NFF and many Nigerians, we can’t afford to disappoint them.
“May be it could have been better if I’m playing but I know that with or without me, we can win this trophy.”
The Golden Eaglets have responded well without the presence of their star striker, with Taiwo Awoniyi, Musa Yahaya, Chidiebere Nwakali and Obasi Chigozie sharing six goals between themselves.
“We are sad when Success got injured but we have all psyched ourselves up,” said Awoniyi at the Mixed Zone after the 5-0 win against Iraq at the Rashid Stadium in Dubai. |It is a team effort and we are going to do our best for the team.”
