Ighalo struck five times for the Hornets, with a brace against Liverpool and goals against Norwich, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.
Also shortlisted is Hornets boss, Quique Sanchez Flores, who guided the Golden Boys to three important wins in a busy festive schedule, including a memorable 3-0 triumph over Liverpool at Vicarage Road, as well as victories over Sunderland and Norwich, and a 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger, Claudio Ranieri and Alan Pardew are also shortlisted for the manager award, with Mesut Ozil, Marko Arnautovic, Riyad Mahrez, Romelu Lukaku and Dele Alli joining Ighalo in the player nominations.
The winner will be announced on Friday at 6am.
