How HID Awolowo died after pounded yam lunch, meeting on 100th birthday

More details have emerged on how the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, ‎died on Saturday.
Sources in her residence at Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, said Mama, as she is fondly called, died after a meeting and lunch of pounded yam.
She passed on at 3:15pm.
The meeting, which involved her children and grand children, was said to have centred on the plans for the 100th birthday celebration of the Yeye Oodua.
She would have been 100 on November 25.
In fact, samples of clothes meant for the celebration were said to have been considered at the meeting.
It was after the meeting that Chief Awolowo took a bowl of pounded yam before retiring to her room.
She was said to have died at 3:15pm.
A statement by the eldest child of the deceased, Omotola Oyediran, said: “With gratitude to God for her remarkable and illustrious life, the entire Awolowo family announce the glorious home-calling of our dear Matriarch, Yeye Oodua, Hannah Idowun Dideolu Awolowo this afternoon, September 19, 2015.
“Mama died as gloriously as she lived, she spent the day in the company of her children, grand-children, great grand-children and close family members.
“She shared a precious few minutes with them when she went in to pray for them as they met to plan her centenary birthday.
“They sang her a befitting song as she came in and she continued to pray for them.
“She died a couple of hours later as she had always wished; surrounded by her children, grand children and great grand children.”
