How friend convinced Lagos killer husband to turn himself in to police, + photos

Lekan Shonde, the man who killed his wife, Ronke, in Lagos State, has turned himself in to the police.
Shonde reported to the police in Lagos State on Monday.
He reported at the Rapid Response Squad office in Alausa, Ikeja, along with a friend, Sunday Chukwudi Nwaobi, who persuaded him to do so.
Nwaobi, in a telephone interview with The Eagle Online, said he told Shonde there was no need running away from the law.
He said he was clear in his mind when he told his friend of over 30 years that the best move to make was surrendering to the police.
Nwaobi said though he has not physically seen Shonde since they left secondary school, where the accused was his junior, he could vouch for his character.
He said to show how much trust people have in Shonde, a friend of his has just arrived in Nigeria from the United States of America to pursue the case for him.
Shonde was said to have strangled his wife to death on Thursday.
Since then, he had been on the run.
He however told The Punch that it was one scuffle that went wrong.
He said he pounced on his wife after she boasted and gave him graphic details of how she slept with another man in Abuja.
As at press time, Shonde had been moved to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
