The House of Representatives committee on public petitions has ordered the immediate arrest of the national chairman of Tricycle Association of Nigeria, Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelegun, for failure to appear before the committee to answer charges of financial misappropriation and abuse of office.
A law firm, I.M Iliyasu and Co had petitioned Apelegun to the House on behalf of some aggrieved members but he was yet to show up to answer to the charges in spite of invitations from the committee.
The committee chaired by Mike Etaba in their sitting recently, frowned at the development, and in a unanimous motion ordered the Inspector General of police to arrest and bring Apelegun to its next sitting on December 3.
In a release signed by the Committee’s Head of Media, Chooks Oko, and made available to newsmen Thursday, the committee said Apelegun’s behaviour is an act of lawlessness which will not be condoned.
Part of the statement read: “We are here to make sure Nigerians are happy and will thus not condone any act of lawlessness.

“The Inspector General of police is hereby requested to bring Apelegun in person during the next hearing” Etaba, chairman of the committee, ruled.
In a related development, the committee threatened to visit the same treatment on the management of Prima Factory on Badagry road, Lagos, for their failure to show up at the committee to answer charges of alleged neglect and abandonment of one Rafiu Taiwo, a staff of the company who was injured in the workplace.
The committee warned that companies operating in the country must treat Nigerians with dignity and sense of responsibility.
Prima Factory, producers of plastic foam and caps, is run by the Chinese.
