Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), on saturday declared that the country is at the verge of making history for conducting an exemplary free and fair general election.
General Gowon, who was at the Asokoro District polling unit 11 to observe proceedings, however, met no official of the Independent National Electoral Commission on ground as scheduled.
Notwithstanding the initial hiccup, the former Head of State between 1966 and 1975 believes that the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led INEC will do the nation proud at the end of the day.
Accreditation however began as 10:23am with huge number of electorates queuing for the accreditation process.
Among other notable Nigerians at the Asokoro unit 11 were one time Chief Judge of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Uwais; and the Director General of the Department of State Service, Ita Ekpenyong, and his wife.
