Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has said he will restore the lost glory of Rangers International FC by ensuring its proper funding and re-orgnisation.
Ugwuanyi announced the measures in Enugu on Wednesday while presenting the 2016 budget estimate of N85.179 billion to the state assembly.
He said: “Having acknowledged sports as a major avenue for engaging our youths positively, creating jobs and marketing our state, we are taking steps to return Rangers FC to its glorious days.
“Enugu and Rangers FC have been the breeding ground for celebrated sports personalities. We have resolved to take immediate steps to reorganise and revive the club – a club that is dear, not only to the people of Enugu but to every Igbo man.
“We had earlier moved to resolve the impasse between the players and the management of the club over unpaid salaries and other entitlements.”
The governor also said the club would surely return to its winning ways in the 2016 league season.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the club, which used to be the pride of football lovers in the South East, had a poor outing in the 2015 league season due to organisational challenges.
