Generator explosion kills ex-Lagos Councillor

A former Councilor in Kosefe Local Government Area of Lagos State has died of injuries sustained from generator explosion.
The deceased, Olu Ogunjobi, 51, was a councillor between 2003 and 2007. Ogunjobi was re-fuelling generator in his office when the explosion occurred on July, 24, 2015.
It was gathered that the victim would have survived the incident, but doctors at the Gbagada General Hospital where he was rushed to, were on strike. The man was said to have died as a result of complications from the burnt.
Mr. Taoheed Adekunle, said: “Immediately the generator caught fire, the deceased pick it up and tried to throw it out. He got burnt in the process. The impact of the explosion caused him a severe first degree burn. He was rushed to St Daniel hospital in Oworoshoki, but referred to the Gbagada General Hospital, where he died.”
Master Victor Ogunjobi, the son of the deceased said that the death of his father was devastating to him and his siblings.
He said:  “Before my father becomes a Councillor, he had a barbing salon shop and also sells musical cassettes. After his tenure as a Councillor, he went back into the business. He was inside the shop, trying to re-fuel his generator when the generator exploded and caught fire. In other to escape from the fire, he picked the generator and threw it away. He sustained severe injuries in the process. Some good neighbours close to his shop rescued him. They took him to a private hospital, but he later died.”
When contacted the Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin confirmed the incident.
Amadin added: “The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oworoshoki station received a distress about a fire incident. He and his men moved swiftly to the scene as to avoid hoodlums from taking advantage of the unfortunate situation. The fire was later put out and a wounded man was later identified to be a former Councillor. He sustained injuries in the fire. He was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, where he died.”
